Home Redesign – Bedroom – The Plan

Morning loves!  So right now I’ve put together the last prepare and furniture boards for the master bedroom redesign.  As it’s just a rental I couldn’t do as considerably as I wished to but am rather pleased with the outcome.  As is my ‘client’, ha.  I’ll go through every aspect in flip, or just skip to the bottom for the great things.

Flooring – we already had okay floorboards [laminate but fairly excellent high quality], so I just stored these and additional a rug.  It took me a looong time to decide on this, I have actual Rug Indecision Issues clearly, but ultimately settled on employing a vintage Moroccan wedding blanket.  It will get zero foot targeted traffic so I don’t want to fret about the rug getting as well delicate, it just sits there lookin’ fairly.

I’ve been swooning in excess of handiras for a prolonged time now, see here for more of these goodies!

Walls – I got the painters in to give the area a new lease of life with some crisp white paint, which entirely transformed the room.  I desired to preserve it all really calm and minimalist so I’ve just added a few straightforward pieces of art and a carved wood mirror.  Will share piccies in a tiny whilst…

Window treatment – this was possibly a dilemma location as the bedroom will get a good deal of bright sunshine each and every morning at 7 o’clock on the dot.  Singapore sits pretty considerably slap bang on the Equator so the sun rises and sets at the identical time 12 months round, but we’re  both early risers so I decided to go for a white linen complete height curtain with a thin cotton lining – when the sun comes up it shines right via the linen and demonstrates off all the lovely all-natural slubs and nubs and generates this amazing diffused light.  A very wonderful way to wake up!

See a lot more puddled beauties right here!

Furniture – we didn’t have to squeeze in a wardrobe or chest of drawers, as we luckily have a slick stroll-in wardrobe.  So I was genuinely only seeking at the fundamentals:

one. Bed

So I desperately needed to do a DIY canopy-bed-style-thang, with material hanging from battens attached to the ceiling but sob sob it’s a false ceiling housing the recessed downlighters, which may well feasibly get the bodyweight of some quite quite thin and floaty fabric, but I didn’t truly want to risk the total issue crashing on our heads in the middle of the evening.

One day, one particular day…

So in the end I purchased a simple but great good quality headboard-less kingsize bed, and extra a lovely carved wooden display from Indonesia.  See here for a few different choices for this kind of appear, from shutters to ar2rk!  Kinda like these…

2. Bedside tables

I have a huge and long-standing grudge towards bedside tables.  I’m not confident exactly in which this came from, I’ve in no way been especially offended by one particular, but the matchy-matchy factor truly irritates me.  So I was open to fairly significantly all ideas.

Alistair has expressed very few demands in terms of what he needs in the location I’ve married a sensible guy, ha, but a ‘cool Asian froggy rain drum’ was one particular of them.  Very satisfied to oblige as I’m rather partial to these bronze beauts myself:

They make a dramatic plop noise [technical term] when rain (or um…house keys?) drop onto the surface – it’s all exciting and video games till it practically induces a heart-attack each time Ali’s mobile telephone alarm goes off straight on top of it.  No need to have for the snooze perform in our home, oh no.

Ermm and I made the decision to go for a lovely little mother of pearl inlay table for my side, producing a his ‘n’ hers bedside table circumstance – there’s no explanation why you can’t have mismatched sides genuinely, as prolonged as they perform with each other nicely and are approx. the same h8.

3. Armchair and side table

There was a little corner just begging for an armchair vignette.  I meant this technically as a little reading spot but in reality it is truly just someplace for me to throw my crap at the finish of the day.  Pretty even though!

Lighting – there was quite minor to do for lighting truly, as the recessed downlighters have been presently in spot.  I just incorporated a straightforward and chic table lamp and Bob was your proverbial Uncle.

Add-ons – yet again, I haven’t extra a lot of as I wanted to maintain the whole room very calm and straightforward, but a Balinese capiz shell sculpture (to be transformed into a light one particular day…maybe), a couple of cute photo frames and some lovely washed linen cushions do the organization.
