A chip of the previous block Tobia Scarpa undoubtedly isn’t. Son of acclaimed architectural maestro Carlo Scarpa, the innovative designer, who turns 80 next year, was determined from the outset to plough his own imaginative furrow, in spite of his architectural education. His legacy is a raft of game-shifting furniture and lighting pieces that test the bounds of what’s materially and technologically achievable. 2015interiordesign met up with Mr Scarpa, Jr, at the Cassina showroom in the course of this year’s imm cologne to go over creativity, loved ones and falling out of adore with Alvar Aalto’s tables.
